Whisky Reviews
Here you'll find honest opinions, thoughtful analysis and the occasional disagreement, because no two palates are quite the same. We review widely, score reluctantly and remain convinced that whisky is far more interesting than the numbers attached to it.
Agreement is optional; curiosity is encouraged.
Glasgow 1770 8yo Peated Bourbon Cask
Mason isnβt a cat-lover. Nor, it seems, is he ready to be seduced by this young Glasgow 1770 8yo Peated. Maybe, however, with a little time, anyoneβs mind can be changed.
Glen Moray Classic
In railing against the addition of colour and chill-filtering, Mason is tripped up by a bargain-basement Glen Moray Classic. Heβs forced to apply some pragmatism and just appreciate what it is.
Eagle Rare 10yo
Mason has been β enjoyingβ his recent hiatus from alcohol. This year has been longer than most due to Europeβs βheat domeβ of 2026, which has had him reach for this Eagle Rare 10yo upon return.
Ardnamurchan Golden Promise Duo
In a fit of rebellion, Mason rails against the wave of AI generated everything he finds in his life today. Whisky, especially good old-school style such as these Ardnamurchan Golden Promise releases, seems to help.
Thompson Bros Sutherland 5yo
Facing the challenges of restraint, Mason tackles the inevitable fallout of over-accumulation. We can all relate. That said, it doesnβt stop him from buying a backup of this Thompson Bros Sutherland.
Turntable Track 07 - Born to be Wild
Once in a while, Mason gets genuinely excited about a new whisky release. This is one of those moments - and itβs a blend. Although one with a young and very different take on things; Turntableβs Born to be Wild.
Compass Box The Peat Monster
Remember the βgood ole daysβ as kids where we ranged far and wide fearlessly. Memories of those days in playgrounds bring a contrast to the newer playground designs where sharp edges are banned and children protected. Reflecting, Mason finds a tasty Peat Monster from the back of the cupboard which he has a soft spot for.
Edradour 10yo PX Small Batch
Palate fatigue. Mason is convinced itβs a thing. And so, he resolves to seek out things to switch up his sipping experiences. How about the stuff he likes less? Like full maturation PX? An Edradour 10 fits the bill.
Cadenheadβs Glen Garioch 11yo Fino
Feeling the crunch on his finances, Mason gets introspective. Facing over-accumulation, he naively attempts a slow down and a clear out of languishing bottles & revisits a Cadenheadβs 11yo Garioch.
Dalmore 2007 Vintage
Mason has such a case of disappointed-ness. he can barely bring himself to review the bottle. At β¬140 though, he feels compelled to warn everyone that this - isnβt good. A 2007 Dalmore in the glass.
Elevenses Linkwood 9yo
A solid and dependable dram is needed to help Mason come down after a whirlwind trip to Glasgow for the annual Whisky Festival. This Fragrant Drops Elevenses Linkwood does the trick nicely.
Ardnahoe 6yo Aqvavitae Small Batch
Even early in his exploration, Mason has accumulated bottles to tuck away for βa special occasionβ. Then recent news came along and upended things. Time to crack this 6yo Ardnahoe.
Highland Park 18yo
Who wouldβve thought some dog-sitting would result in the ability to explore a bottle of whisky that youβd never buy yourself? Mason digs into this vintage Highland Park 18yo.
NcβNean Organic Single Malt
With so much to choose from, Mason is becoming more picky than ever. When it comes to replacing things heβs already tried, like this NcβNean Organic, heβs even pickier.
Mortlach 11yo 2012
Mason brings a small batch release from Signatory to the table as he considers how something so beautiful can be presented in a vessel so ugly, that he loves it. This one calls for poetry.
Thompson Brothers Mystery Malt Series 2
We take a break from our summer, erm, break, to bring an epic team Dramface pile-on for the Thompson Brothersβ Mystery Malt Series No.2. Letβs see if we all pay attention to the try-it-blind memo this time.
Deanston 12yo
Mason spots an omission in the Dramface archives - thereβs never been a review of the Deanston 12yo! In shock, a few of the team pile on to make reparations. Is it still as good as it always was?
Glasgow 1770 Constantia
A shipping miscommuniquΓ© sees various Dramface team members end up with whisky they didnβt expect. This time itβs Glasgowβs 1770 Constantia and it means three can join in on the review.
Millstone PX Peated
When considering how much whisky costs - and how much of it is actually affordable - Mason puts the case forward for ditching your mid-priced wine habit for some tasty Dutch Millstone single malt.
Glenfiddich 21 year old
Starting out eager and earnest, Mason grabbed a βbargainβ 21 year old Glenfiddich, only to discover that age and quality are not always synonymous in whisky.
