Year One  —  done.

We can’t believe it, either. With such a fast year, it’s amazing to reflect on how much we’ve achieved.

Launched

With Springbank, Bunnahabhain, Ardbeg, and many more bringing high-interest releases, our #1 most read review is not going to stay in that spot forever. And yet, a year in, our first-ever review remains the most read.

Our First Review — Clynelish 14

Since then, Dramface has reviewed close to five hundred whiskies.

Busy bees. We still don’t really have a strategy when it comes to content… We leave the review selection to the writing team, who write about whatever they have on hand, whatever moves them to write.

That seems to suit us just fine.

...Remember, every Dramface review is written by a fellow enthusiast.

Readers from every corner of the world

Tomintoul to Timbuktu

It’s probably not a surprise to hear we don’t have a strategy when it comes to geography, either. Wherever you are, whatever you’re enjoying, we hope you can find something of interest being shared here, where we believe whisky recognises no borders.

It’s wonderful to see you stop by.

With 29 ‘Dramfaces’ contributing to date, the team continues to grow. Here are a few…

Most talked-about distilleries

Because we write and talk about the distilleries and bottles we buy ourselves, we think Dramface ends up being closely reflective of what our readership buys and enjoys. Still, it’s interesting to dip into the stats and pick out our top 15 most talked-about distilleries…

How the last year breaks down

Stats, stats, stats …

Warning: these numbers betray us.
Despite being open to anything, we do seem to really love our Scotch.

  • Scotch

Okay, we can’t hide it: at 6 months, we were reviewing 69% Scotch, now it’s 83%. We’re exposed as lovers of Scotch — and we’re just getting started.

  • World

With the explosion of world whisky, this surely has to grow. The problem is the simultaneous explosion in Scotch…

  • Bourbon

We visit corn occasionally, but our audience and writing team like their malt.

  • Irish

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that there’s so little Irish in the mix. Scale, availability, and price are factors here, but we need to try harder.

MOST POPULAR REVIEW

MOST POPULAR REVIEW

Surprised? We weren’t; these are big, popular whiskies and the comparison angle here made this review the busiest release-day review we’ve shared.

More Dramface readers cared about this release than any other.

Gregor hosts Rob, Roy & Jenny to Talk Global Travel Retail, Renaissance Whiskies & Dream Drink Partners.

Still our most-read feature. We think there’s more to be said here.

More to come

A word from our editor Wally Macaulay

The entire team at Dramface shares the aspiration to continue what we’ve achieved in the last twelve months. That said, we don’t have targets, and we don’t dictate what’s reviewed or when.

These days, when whisky opinions are as common as kneecaps, we know we’re just part of a much bigger whisky ecosystem. But we do believe we bring value: we are whisky enthusiasts, too. So while you wade through all of those opinions in today’s super-complex whisky scene, ask yourself this crucial question:

How many are funded by the very community they are there to serve?

This is at the core of everything Dramface does. We don’t do paid promotions, we don’t have partners, and we don’t do sponsorships. We have members.

We also have an impassioned and engaged readership. We owe it to them, we owe it to our members, and we owe it to whisky to be as honest as possible, to celebrate the great and call out the not-so-great — whatever the reasons. We believe that’s how we can take our place and help ensure the best quality whisky for everyone.

Read this far? A huge thank you from all of us. The stats we’re sharing on this page is every bit down to you.

Thank you. —WMc
