Wally Macaulay

As I home-in on two decades of whisky worship, I remain as amazed and energised as ever by its appeal. Whisky and the people who come to its side are capable of amazing things. Dramface is just one such example.

Wally’s Articles & Contributions

My Biggest Surprises

Now that I’m behind the scenes greasing cogs, I have many excuses for when I’m asked why I don’t contribute so many articles these days. The biggest of these ‘reasons’ is that I’m enjoying the content of my Dramface colleagues too much. It’s true though. Here are a few of my picks which I may have read more than once.

Signatory Ledaig 12yo

Tyree joined the team in late summer. It took a review or two from him before the penny dropped as to the level of geekery the man has reached at such a tender age. Amazing contributions to unlocking flavour and where they may come from. This article is an early one where he fits in his trademark “organoleptic” but also something we’ll rarely see used for whisky reviews; “sadomasochistic”.

Nikka Whisky From The Barrel

Adamh’s shockingly candid interview with a whisky flipper. An insightful and human piece about those we love to hate; the ‘flippers’. Those who profit from buying and selling bottles of whisky our precious whisky. When Adamh mentioned he could get the interview I was skeptical. Yet, here we have it. Spoiler: we’re all part of the problem.

Views From a Scapegoat

Any piece by Dougie surprises me. Some of his articles are long, yet every time I finish them wanting more. I’m very grateful that he found whisky and now that he has, I’m especially grateful he writes for us. In this piece he shares the brutality of a hangover.

Springbank 10yo 2022

Perhaps not a surprise, but Wally has a suggestion how to prevent all the hoarding for ‘investment’.
