Whisky Reviews
Here you'll find honest opinions, thoughtful analysis and the occasional disagreement, because no two palates are quite the same. We review widely, score reluctantly and remain convinced that whisky is far more interesting than the numbers attached to it.
Agreement is optional; curiosity is encouraged.
Glasgow 1770 Golden Beer Cask
Ramsay only really does two drinks; whisky and beer. This one should be right up his street, a golden beer finished whisky form Glasgow Distillery, cask strength and Β£64 too.
Wasmundβs Rappahannock
Usually a gentle type, the spectre of a bad experience from Ogilvieβs past rears its head to have him reaching for the warning klaxon. Do not buy this. A rare 2/10 on Dramface.
Benromach Cask Strength 2013
Do the right thing, by all means. Support, donβt judge. Because sometimes being a patient spendthrift, far away from a whisky shop, still uncovers things to reassure you that good stuff is still out there.
Fettercairn 16yo
Considering the role of malt whisky today versus what it was in the very recent past, Fletcher goes looking for something akin to Batman; that which is capable of being more than just one thing.
Writersβ Tears Copper Pot Edition
Exposed and laid bare, Ogilvieβs dwindling bottle collection is without a home, meaning heβs able to see and explore what would otherwise have been ignored, such as this Irish sleeper.
An Orkney 11yo SMOS Parcel 11
When some of the Dramface reviews are for limited outturns, mostly from indies, Earie wonders; Whatβs the point? Then he finds something like this. Thatβs the point.
Jura 13yo Manzanilla
Dougie, deliberately, seeks out the distillery that everyone has told him is terrible, he pulls the trigger on a bargain to discover βJura is well worth the chase. Jura is magic whisky. Jura is hugely enjoyable and fun.β π³
Ardmore 2008 10yo
Drawn to his beloved Ardmore like a moth to a flame, Fletcher believes that, while the official bottling is a pale imitation, indies always deliver Ardmoreβs amber light through clumsy darkness. Unlessβ¦
Bruichladdich 18yo Re/Define
Wally talks himself in and out of liking this release as he struggles with the cost and the direction of things, all the while realising this is the best Bruichladdich he remembers tasting.
Elements of Islay: Cask Edit
Enjoying a buddy night, Broddy reflects that the takeaway was, once more, price. Inspired to find an antidote for his tasting pals, he discovers this cracking malt form Elixir.
Paradigm Spirits 19yo Canadian Whisky
Aengus is back, and he puts forward his case for an award-winning 19yo Canadian βwhiskyβ that, due to the Canadian 1/11 rule, most purists would declare a cocktail. Still sounds good though.
Glen Garioch 1999
Surprised by tales of woe and predictions of whisky doom and gloom, Ogilvie harnesses positivity in the bottle chase, and immediately steps out and snags himself a banger of a dusty β99 Glen Garioch
Invergordon 25yo
How might we view this mature yet affordable whisky in the future? Wally decides it needs to be celebrated now - before itβs gone and relegated to a nostalgic recollection of what once was possible.
Tomatin 12yo Amarone Cask
Itching to get his curious whisky face back on, Dougie heads to his local purveyor of whisky dreams. Running on nothing more than excitement and seat-of-his-pants selection, weβd like to tell you he lucked out, but, alas, no.
Glenlivet 12yo 200th Anniversary
Curiosity gets the better of Fletch. With Glenlivet marking 200 years, theyβve released a 12yo that looks identical to the standard. Only available through TWE, he dives in to compare the worldβs best selling malt.
Glen Scotia 2023 Festival 11yo
Less of a collab; more of a dual review - featuring Fletcherβs debut and seasoned support from Drummond, both enjoying being able to actually celebrate a festival release. How weird!
Two Stacks Dram in a Can
βWhisky in a can? Well, if itβs that or no whisky - gimme the can!β At first we worry Broddy has lost his mind, then we realise heβs Canadian, and turning his neighbourhood into a skate rink is normal. Letβs go.
Ouche Nanon Lost Barrel XXI
With hundreds of distilleries over there, it seems inexcusable that itβs taken two years of Dramface to feature a French malt. Here it is, and it needs to stop.
Finn Thomson Mannochmore 14yo PX Finish
Earie reflects on his outlook coming in to 2024βs whisky space and, specifically, has to confess that he found it shocking he wasnβt shocked at paying Β£85 for a 14yo.
Tullibardine Two Ways
Letβs hand this tease over to the author; βBut I reckon Iβve been blindsided by this βsingle caskβ truth and itβs making me wonder if anything is what it seems anymore.β Doog uncovers untruthsβ¦
