Elixir Distillers unveils Tormore Distillery’s ‘Legacy’ Series

Tormore Distillery unveils ‘Legacy’, a limited pre-release of its first-ever collection of vintage single casks under the ownership of Elixir Distillers. The Legacy bottlings have been released to showcase three years of production from the Tormore Distillery: 2003, 2009, and 2012.

Each vintage in the collection features a selection of hand-picked, single-cask whiskies which have been carefully chosen to reflect the quality and distinctive style of the Tormore spirit.

Tormore Distillery Manager, Polly Logan, says: “These Legacy single casks exhibit some of the wonderful Tormore spirit from before Elixir bought the distillery. They all showcase what we call the 'Tormore DNA': glorious fruits - peaches and pears in particular - and a full, rounded palate akin to a peach pie with buttery pastry. Each cask has been selected to allow us to share how excited we are about what Tormore has to offer.”

Each bottling has been released at cask strength, emphasising the depth and individuality of Tormore’s spirit. The 2003 vintage offers notes of vanilla custard and sweet oak from four first-fill bourbon casks; the 2009 expression bursts with notes of ripe peaches, spice, and citrus from six first fill bourbon casks; and the 2012 release is drawn from a mix of first- and second-fill bourbon casks which gives notes of poached pears and buttery pastry.

Celebrating the past and anticipating the future

In 2022, Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, co-founders of The Whisky Exchange, acquired Tormore Distillery through their company, Elixir Distillers. Ahead of the launch of Tormore’s first permanent core range in 2026, Distillery Manager Polly Logan and Elixir’s Master Blender Oliver Chilton have been exploring the existing cask inventory.

Their sampling revealed subtle shifts in the whisky’s style over the decades, reflecting evolving blending needs while preserving Tormore’s distinctive character. The Legacy bottlings celebrate this heritage and highlight Elixir Distillers’ expertise in cask selection. They follow the recent Tormore Blueprint release, a trio of 10-year-old single malts matured in Bourbon Barrels, Cream Sherry Casks, and Toasted Barrels, which offered a first look at the distillery’s future direction under new ownership.

The Tormore Distillery

Tormore Distillery is a well-known landmark in Speyside and is often called the ‘Pearl of Speyside’. Originally built to produce light, fruity malts for the US market, it later became a key component in premium scotch blends.

Celebrated by blenders for its elegant, medium-bodied style with notes of pear, stone fruit, and citrus, official releases have been rare, with its whisky mostly seen in single-cask bottlings from independent bottlers.
