Whisky Reviews
Here you'll find honest opinions, thoughtful analysis and the occasional disagreement, because no two palates are quite the same. We review widely, score reluctantly and remain convinced that whisky is far more interesting than the numbers attached to it.
Agreement is optional; curiosity is encouraged.
NcβNean Huntress Duo
Ogilvie leads as he, Archie and Eallair team up on a duo of special releases from NcβNean. Supplied through Nick, each of them have a go at Edition 4 β Lemon Meadowβ and 5 βMalted Teacakeβ.
Ardnamurchan Paul Launois 2026
The 2026 Paul Launois release from Ardnamurchan inspires a Dramface collab. Four of our writers gather at its side to ponder the trajectory of one of the coolest annual releases in whisky.
Ben Nevis Duo
After ignoring a distillery he once thought had long closed, Charlie dives in to a duo comparison on Ben Nevis. Both from Decadent Drinks, both 12yo - sherry vs bourbon. Fight!
Ardnamurchan AD/10 2025 Release
Archie packs a few bottles on a long drive north for a short break to contemplate his decade of change. He soon realises he only needed to pack one - the latest 10 year old Ardnamurchan from 2025.
Ardnamurchan Sauternes
Dougie has been out injured. All his own doing, of course. Heβs now medicating in a bath of Sauternes-flavoured Ardnamurchan. Four of them, actually. Heβs been missed.
Ardnamurchan Quartet
Covering four Ardnamurchans in one sitting, Dougie eventually discovers something heβs been searching for in whisky - that mysterious βeffervescenceβ. Perfect that it comes from his beloved Ardna.
Adelphi Ardnamurchan 5yo
Something got in the way of Doogβs enjoyment of whatβs become βhis whiskyβ. Fortunately for all, he worked out what it was, and faced it down. He bring us a MacLean & Bruce 5yo Ardnamurchan to share all.
Ardnamurchan Trio
We often ensure new Ardnamurchan is directed through our resident Amber Prism. Wally ships Doog the Mezcal and he serves it up alongside two single cask crackers.
Finglassie & Ardnamurchan 6yo
Dougie returns from recent distractions to grab two seemingly unrelated - at first - malts for a Misty Isle twofer: A Thompson Bros Ardnamurchan & an Inchdairnie Finglassie from Lady of the Glen.
Ardnamurchan AD/10
In reflective mode, Dougie does what we need him to do: close out the year with a retrospective via Ardnamurchan. AD/10, Sauternes and AD/Venturers all up for grabs. He pulls in Ainsley to help out.
Ardnamurchan 10yo
We live in a era of privilege, witnessing the coming of age of brand new whiskies and new things to love. Doog tries Ardnamurchan at ten years old and recounts his fall into complete fandom.
Ardnamurchan Golden Promise
The say distance makes the heart go fonder. Dougie returns to Ardnamurchanβs fair whisky shores after a long break and discovers whatβs inside this 5 year old Unpeated Golden Promise Barley expression.
Ben Nevis 8yo 100ΒΊ Proof
In a whisky landscape swamped with ratcheted prices and disgruntled malt lovers, Fletcher uncorks what he believes just might be a brilliant antidote. Bravo Signatory Vintage, bravo.
Oban Little Bay
After some surprise that there might exist a sweet-but-pleasing and reasonably priced Oban, Ogilvie is once more shocked into a Diageo embargo where the prices are - once more - jacked up.
Dougieβs 2023, in Review
While reviewing those two Aqvavitae Ardnamurchan bottles, somehow, in so many incidental ways, Dougie highlights all of the things to be grateful for exploring whisky. Those high-energy, emotional, glowing, amber-inspired moments we all love to live for.
NcβNean Single Malts Duo
In a Dramface first, we visit NcβNean. Two malts showcasing what theyβre up to in sustainability and organic processes. Ramsay wonders if heβs missed anything, with a little help from Drummond.
Ardnamurchan Rum Cask Release
A buddy-up review is required as Drummond and Dougie both have their beloved Ardna from rum casks to discuss. This wide but limited release is no doubt on a few Santa lists this year.
Ardnamurchan ArdnAmerica
Mid-office move, house move and family move, Doog has no bandwidth to think about how he can grab the latest Ardna exciter, but no worries. In steps a generous soul from the whisky fold and he finds some time to step back into whisky heaven.
Oban 12yo 2021
Saddened by the recent Diageo Special Releases and declaring them βbrokenβ, Wally reflects on his inevitable departure with a rarely seen cask strength Oban from 2021βs outturn.
Ardnamurchan Paul Launois
An experimental camper van trip around Scotlandβs west coast affords Dougie the chance to get to know an excellent release from Ardnamurchan. It also affords us the chance to travel with him. Come for the score, get hooked by the words, stay for the images. Wow.
