Nikka Whisky’s Miyagikyo 10-Year-Old Single Malt Returns to the UK

Nikka Whisky has announced the launch of its long-awaited Miyagikyo Single Malt 10-Year-Old in the UK via premium spirits distributor Speciality Brands. Launching this month, the whisky marks the first age-statement release from the Miyagikyo distillery since 2016.

Following the launch of Yoichi Single Malt 10-Year-Old in 2022, the new Miyagikyo expression represents a significant milestone in Nikka’s ongoing efforts to present exciting Japanese whisky expressions to consumers. The whisky has been developed by Nikka’s current blending team using carefully preserved stocks.

Bottled at 45% ABV, Miyagikyo 10-Year-Old is a rare and limited release, showcasing the distillery’s signature elegance and fruit-forward character. Matured for a minimum of 10 years in the mountains of Miyagi Prefecture, the whisky offers a bright and expressive profile.

On the nose, there are layered tropical notes of pineapple and mango. The palate reveals sweet vanilla, baking spices, fruit cake and clove, leading to a long, gently caramelised finish.

Miyagikyo Single Malt 10-Year-Old also introduces an updated packaging that reflects the distillery’s natural surroundings. A smaller label crafted from traditional Japanese washi paper emphasises texture and refinement, while a deep forest green colour replaces the previous pink hue, evoking the unique environment of the Miyagikyo distillery.

Founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, Miyagikyo was created to complement the robust character of Yoichi with a softer, more delicate spirit style. Built with modern equipment for its time, the distillery produces a wide spectrum of flavour profiles by varying production parameters, contributing to Nikka’s blending-led philosophy.

Miyagikyo Single Malt 10 Years Old (70cl, 45% ABV) will be available from the April 2026 at selected retailers – RRP £149.
